Prison sentence requested for Yılmaz Büyükerşen

Prison sentence requested for Yılmaz Büyükerşen

Thehearing at the Eskişehir 2nd High Criminal Court was not attended by the 22 defendants being tried without arrest, but the lawyers for the defendants and the parties were present.

In the opinion on the merits prepared by the public prosecutor,it was requested that Yılmaz Büyükerşen,who is being tried for the crime of"rigging the performance of an obligation",be sentenced toprison.A prison sentence of 3 to 7 years was requested for Büyükerşen.

The opinion in question also requested Büyükerşen be subject to a political ban and that the alleged public loss be recovered, while for some of the other 21 defendants prison sentences were requested, and for others it was requestedas well as a judicialfine were requested.

The court panel, upon therequest of the lawyers topresent their statements regarding the prosecutor's opinion, adjourned thehearing to February 20.
