Prison sentence sought: First statement from Ahmet Sonuç, known as 'Jahrein'

The indictment prepared against Ahmet Sonuç, who was detained and arrested for making remarks in his social media broadcasts that were deemed inconsistent with general societal morality and values, and later released pending trial following an appeal, has been accepted by the Antalya 8th Criminal Court of First Instance.

The indictment stated that during a "virtual patrol" conducted by teams from the Antalya Police Department's Cyber Crimes Branch, it was determined that Ahmet Sonuç, using the handle "Jahrein," was conducting live broadcasts on the social media platform Twitch that were open to every user.

The indictment, which stated that it was understood the defendant committed the alleged crime by making obscene remarks in his broadcasts that violated moral values regarding society, relatives, family, and child relationships, requested that Sonuç be tried for the crime of "obscenity via the press," facing a prison sentence of 6 months to 3 years and a judicial fine of up to 5,000 days.

'I HAVE NO CRIMINAL RECORD, MY PAST IS CLEAN'

Ahmet Sonuç made his first statement following the decision via his social media account. In his statement, Sonuç said, 'I do not think I will receive the maximum sentence,' and included the following remarks:

"I was being tried while detained, but I was released. The penalty for the crime attributed to me is between 6 months and 3 years. For a 3-year sentence to be given, the crime must be committed in a heinous manner. I have no criminal record, my past is clean. Therefore, even if I am found guilty in this matter, I do not think I will receive the maximum sentence. Furthermore, even if I were to receive it, a 3-year sentence has no actual prison time. If I am wrong, let legal experts correct me."
