Prison sentences for 4 public officials in case regarding murder of two lovers

In the case heard in Kırşehir, the verdict was announced for Mayor Selehattin Ekicioğlu, the then-Deputy Mayor Nuri Araz, Acting Head of the Municipal Police Department Mehmet Güneş, and Private Security Unit Supervisor Emre Dalkılıç. The defendants were sentenced to 3 months in prison each for "misconduct in office." It was stated that the decision would be finalized or could be overturned following an appellate review.

The incident occurred on March 27, 2022, in the Ağbayır locality of the Bağbaşı neighborhood in Kırşehir. It was determined that Şefik Ekici and Sami Aydoğan, who were private security personnel employed by the Kırşehir Municipality, had forced Hasan Aydoğan (21) and Şeyma Demir (18), who were reported to be in a relationship, out of their vehicle by posing as police officers, and incapacitated them using batons and handcuffs. The two young people were then taken to the banks of the Kızılırmak River, shot with a handgun, and thrown into the river. The lifeless body of Şeyma Demir was found 3 days later, and the body of Hasan Aydoğan was found 77 days later.

The two defendants tried in the murder case had been sentenced to two consecutive aggravated life sentences each, as well as 37 years and 6 months in prison each. Following the determination during the investigation that the batons and handcuffs used in the incident belonged to the municipality, a lawsuit was also filed against municipal administrators due to negligence regarding the supervision of security equipment and the assignment of personnel.
