Prison sentences for Halit Ergenç and Rıza Kocaoğlu in Gezi investigation
The court has reached a verdict in the case filed against actors Halit Ergenç and Rıza Kocaoğlu, who gave statements as part of the Gezi Park investigation, on charges of "false testimony." Ergenç was sentenced to 1 year, 10 months, and 15 days in prison, while Kocaoğlu received a 1-year, 8-month prison sentence.
ID İletişim Danışmanlık co-founder and manager Ayşe Barım was arrested on January 27 as part of the Gezi Park investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of 'aiding in the attempt to overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey or to prevent it from performing its duties.'
Following Barım's detention, an investigation was launched against actors Halit Ergenç and Rıza Kocaoğlu, who had given statements as 'witnesses,' for the crime of 'false testimony.'
The verdict for the famous figures, who testified at the Istanbul 24th Criminal Court of First Instance in recent days, has been announced. The court sentenced Ergenç to 1 year, 10 months, and 15 days in prison, and Kocaoğlu to 1 year and 8 months in prison.
