Pro-government columnist Ahmet Hakan finds the party responsible for the hotel fire! 'They didn't do any of these...'

As debates over 'responsibility' continue regarding the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu's Kartalkaya Ski Center, where 78 citizens lost their lives, pro-government columnist Ahmet Hakan targeted the CHP-run Bolu Municipality in his column today.

In his Hürriyet column titled "Bolu Municipality saw the murder coming," Hakan recalled that the hotel that burned down in Kartalkaya had requested a fire safety report from the Bolu Municipality 40 days ago, and then blamed the Bolu Municipality by saying, "The Bolu Municipality said in its report: This hotel is in terrible condition regarding fire safety. Everything is missing. Upon this, the hotel told the Bolu Municipality, 'I have abandoned my request. I don't want a report or anything from you.'"

Hakan noted the following in the remainder of his column:

“If the Bolu Municipality, which officially determined the hotel's immense negligence regarding fire safety, had reported this situation to...

-The relevant ministry.

-The Governor's Office.

-The Prosecutor's Office.

They would have taken a step that could have saved dozens of lives.

However, the Municipality did none of these.

It adopted an attitude of 'What do I care, it doesn't concern me, it's not my responsibility.'

The duty that fell to the Bolu Municipality was to sound the alarm bells.

The municipality might not have such a duty in the legislation.

But it has such a duty for the sake of humanity.

Negligence that disregarded human life was identified 40 days ago.

How can it be that not even a 'peep' was made?

The murder was seen coming 40 days ago.

How can it be that not even the smallest step to prevent the murder was taken?”
