Prof. Dr. Naci Görür points to high-risk earthquake zone: 'The ground is rotten and dangerous'

Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür made important assessments during the "Seismicity of Bursa and Earthquake-Resilient Osmangazi" program. Pointing out that Bursa carries a serious earthquake risk, Görür emphasized that local governments must work in coordination with the central government.

Stating that the application of scientific methods is mandatory, Görür expressed that otherwise, earthquakes will continue to cause major losses every time. Stating that earthquakes are a problem that persists for generations, Görür said, "You may or may not adopt these approaches. However, if you do not fully accept them, our future will constantly be at risk."

Saying that the losses experienced after earthquakes are forgotten over time and that sufficient measures are not taken, Görür warned with the words, "When an earthquake happens, we will mourn, we will lose our loved ones, and then we will forget everything until the next disaster. Afterwards, we will experience the same pain again."

FAULT LINES IN BURSA POSE A DANGER

Emphasizing that Bursa is located on critical fault lines, Görür stated that some parts of the city could suffer serious damage in a possible earthquake.

"The ground in the flat, plain sections of Bursa is rotten, and the groundwater is abundant and close to the surface. These characteristics are of the nature that can cause the most damage in an earthquake. That is why we must concentrate on making this city earthquake-resistant."
