Proposal in Ankara City Council to name a park 'Grey Wolf Heart Merih Demiral'
During the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Council meeting, a proposal to name a park 'Grey Wolf Heart Merih Demiral' was discussed.
The meeting, held at the Municipal Council Conference Hall, was presided over by the First Deputy Speaker of the Metropolitan Municipal Council, Ertan Işık.
During the meeting, a motion was submitted by MHP Group Deputy Chairman Yunus Emre Yıldırım to name one of the suitable parks after national football player Merih Demiral, who was sanctioned by UEFA, as "Grey Wolf Heart Merih Demiral".
In his speech, Yıldırım stated the following:
"We believe that building a park to be named after Merih Demiral and placing a statue of a grey wolf inside the park, reflecting the goal celebration he performed, would be the best response to show the whole world that this sign is not racism, but a symbol of the Turkish nation.
In this sense, I request that our motion regarding naming the park to be built 'Grey Wolf Heart Merih Demiral' be included in the Council's agenda and that the necessary actions be taken."
The motion, which was included in the agenda by the unanimous vote of the council members, was referred to the Naming Commission.
