Proposal to investigate 'newborn gang' rejected by AKP and MHP votes: '12 babies would not have been killed'

Explaining the rationale for the proposal, Felicity Party Group Deputy Chairman Bülent Kaya stated the following:

Actually, the incident is not new, but the brutal practices occurring in the neonatal intensive care unit, which have come to the agenda as if they were a new event due to increasing public pressure, have truly reached a point that makes our skin crawl as a society.

We need to approach the incidents in the neonatal intensive care unit from two issues, from two windows. One is the judicial dimension of the incident, meaning a gang consisting of individuals who committed the crimes themselves, some of whom are public officials and others who are ordinary individuals.

There is also the administrative dimension of the incident. The administrative dimension also requires assuming political responsibility because the public, and those who use power on behalf of the public, have a duty to be preventive, and there is also a punitive dimension if a situation contrary to the legislation occurs despite all preventive measures.

We are not making any allegations that the Minister of Health or the Provincial Health Director of that period were part of this gang, at least based on the evidence we have, but regarding the Provincial Health Director and the current Minister of Health, were you sleeping or not while these gangs were acting as if it were a widespread practice to outsource neonatal intensive care units to sub-companies while they were running wild?

Judicial sentences are being handed down in the country, but unfortunately, despite all these disgraces, no one who assumes political responsibility has emerged. As long as you do not reveal these political responsibilities, this country will continue to face new scandals every day without seeing the bottom of the barrel and without those politically responsible being held accountable.

"THE FISH ROTS FROM THE HEAD"

İYİ Party Manisa Deputy Şenol Sunat also pointed out that the situation is not just a health scandal, but that both the political and economic order are decaying and degenerating, and stated:

Private hospital gangs have formed, damn them all. You, the bankrupt government that cannot produce solutions on any issue, enough is enough, resign. You can no longer govern. Deep wounds have been opened in the conscience of society thanks to you.

During your term in power, as in every subject, you have made opportunism and ruthless self-interest a culture; you are the cause. The fish rots from the head; you are the ones who made private hospital owners Ministers of Health.

Now, Müezzinoğlu says 'I have no news of it.' Who trusts the health system anymore? A root-and-branch cleanup is needed. Do you think this is just a health scandal? Do you not see that both the political and economic order in our country are decaying and degenerating?

By turning the health system into a trade, you have prevented our citizens from accessing one of their most fundamental rights, health services. Opportunists and gangs are emerging and using health services as a tool for exploitation.

"AN INDICATOR OF THE DECAY CREATED BY THE GOVERNMENT"

DEM Party Batman Deputy Zeynep Oduncu Kutevi stated that the ruling party rejects proposals only to satisfy its own ego and that if they had not rejected these proposals, 12 babies would not have lost their lives. Oduncu Kutevi said the following:

For days, we have been talking about how a murderous organization slaughtered babies for the sake of making money, and we must continue to talk about it. At least 12 innocent babies were slaughtered just for the greed of a handful of people. This painful example has become an indicator of the decay created by the government that boasts about 'breaking new ground in the health system.'

At the end of this decay, 12 babies were slaughtered. A network is established, and babies' lives are taken for money. Well, is the only one responsible for this decay those who take babies' lives out of greed for money? Of course not. The government, which turned the health system upside down for years by calling it the 'Health Transformation Project,' actually implemented the very project of decay we are talking about today.

The government, which liquidated public health, saw the public's health only as a tool, and even opened the doors of the market wide open, boasted about what they did until today, but today it has emerged what kind of decay this boasting has led to.

If the proposals made from the people's podium, from the Parliament's podium, had not been rejected by the government just to satisfy its own ego and had been processed, 12 babies would not have been killed today.

We are calling out again from here, please, do not reject the proposals given just because you are the government without looking at their content. Because, unfortunately, the massacres in the country do not stop today because of these proposals you rejected.

"THIS IS WHAT IS PAINFUL"

CHP Samsun Deputy Murat Çan also spoke about the "newborn gang" as follows:

"Undoubtedly, the investigation known and named in the public as the 'newborn gang,' the incident of the prosecutor being threatened, and the subsequent developments have brought this issue to the Parliament. This is what is painful. After this pain, we must definitely make this determination: The visible problem is the gang. This gang consists of three or five ringleaders. About 50 people are involved in these three or five ringleaders, they come together, they aim to plunder public resources; the end of the matter is murder. Well, where are the so-called bureaucrats who cannot audit or who look at the file, not the patient, with superficial inspections in this gang? Is there anyone who sees this in the file? Or where are the so-called health policies that serve, assist, and harbor this gang and their embodied names in this file?"

During Çan's speech, an argument broke out between AKP Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek and CHP Çorum Deputy Mehmet Tahtasız over "the politicization of the scandal."

Later, the Felicity Party's proposal was rejected by the votes of AKP and MHP.
