Prosecutor's referral document regarding Rezan Epözdemir revealed

Lawyer Rezan Epözdemir, who was detained at his home on Sunday morning as part of two separate investigations conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of "bribery," "aiding FETÖ/PDY," and "political and military espionage," was referred to the courthouse three days later. Following his statement to the prosecutor, Epözdemir was referred to the judge with a request for his arrest on the charge of "mediating bribery." For the charges of "aiding the FETÖ/PDY armed terrorist organization" and "political and military espionage," a travel ban was requested for Epözdemir.

In the referral document issued for Epözdemir, it was stated that Epözdemir could not present any document serving as evidence that money was lent or that the debt was repaid. 

The referral document stated that the total value of the seized promissory notes was 2 million 490 thousand liras, and that at the time the notes were issued, the average salary of a judge or prosecutor was 11-12 thousand liras. It was noted that, by a rough calculation, this amount corresponded to what former prosecutor Cengiz Çallı, who was also the prosecutor of the Makaron case, could only pay off after approximately 18 years of work without making any expenditures. 

Stating that this situation is contrary to the ordinary flow of life, the prosecutor's office noted that Epözdemir's defenses were aimed at evading criminal liability for the stated reasons. 

The referral document stated, "It is understood from the WhatsApp records that the bribery was related not only to the release but also to the lifting of judicial control measures."
