Prosecutor's Office launches investigation into Bağcıoğlu for calling retired soldiers to the streets! First statement arrives: 'A FETÖ-like approach'
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into CHP Deputy Chairman Yankı Bağcıoğlu, who called on retired soldiers like himself to raise their voices in support of the lieutenants. Bağcıoğlu made a statement regarding the matter.
The flag handover and graduation ceremony held at the Military Academy on August 30, 2024, went beyond an ordinary ceremony and has remained at the top of the country's agenda ever since. Following the lieutenants' ceremony, the slogan "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal" and the sword-crossing ritual became a major topic of discussion.
LIEUTENANTS HAD BEEN REFERRED TO DISCIPLINARY BOARD
Following the incident, the young lieutenants were subjected to a disciplinary investigation by the Ministry of National Defense (MSB) and were referred to the disciplinary board with a request for their permanent dismissal. The events were met with reactions from both the opposition wing and the public.
CHP Deputy Chairman Yankı Bağcıoğlu called on retired soldiers like himself to take to the streets and hold press conferences following the incident. Upon this call, AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik criticized the move, stating, "Such a call is an act of incompetence that would place our retired soldiers into an extremely wrong framework."
MOVE FROM ANKARA CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
While the debates continued, another move came from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Accordingly, it was alleged that an ex officio investigation was launched against Bağcıoğlu for violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911 and 'Article 95 of the Military Penal Code No. 1632'.
"A FETÖ-LIKE APPROACH"
Making statements to Nefes, Bağcıoğlu made a comparison to FETÖ and listed the following words:
"We are facing a FETÖ-like method. I have no information about an investigation that has reached me. But we are learning this from a media outlet close to the government. I was expecting such an investigation. Since yesterday, 1100 trolls have attacked simultaneously following the AKP Spokesperson's statement regarding my WhatsApp post. Yet, there is nothing illegal in my WhatsApp post. There was a meeting for the lieutenants on November 23, and the Ankara Governor's Office was informed at that time. Permission was going to be requested again, as preliminary coordination was done on WhatsApp. Once the protest locations were determined, permission would have been requested."
