Prosecutor's statement of Orkun Özeller, for whom arrest was requested: 'I am a Turkish soldier who feels a sense of responsibility'

Former Turkish Armed Forces member Orkun Özeller was brought before a judge with a request for his arrest. In his prosecutor's statement, Özeller stated that he did not accept the accusations directed at him. Emphasizing that he served in the TSK for 28 years and fought against the PKK terrorist organization during this time, Özeller said, "There is no conflict I haven't seen; I have held martyrs in my arms, and my friends have become veterans."

Özeller stated that he carried out all his duties in line with the orders and responsibilities of the state, saying, "Today, I am a Turkish soldier who feels a sense of responsibility toward the children of the friends I held as they were martyred in my arms."

Furthermore, stating that developments such as the invitation of the PKK terrorist organization's leader to parliament and him being called a founding leader deeply wounded him, Özeller used the following expressions: "You would agree that portraying this baby killer as if he were the leader of all our citizens of Kurdish origin and bringing him into a legitimate sphere has touched a nerve and hurt me, just as it would any child of Turkey."

The prosecutor's statement shared by journalist Alican Uludağ on his social media account is as follows:

“I do not accept the accusations leveled against me. I served in the TSK for 28 years, and my entire period of service was spent fighting against the PKK terrorist organization. There is no conflict I haven't seen; I have held martyrs in my arms, and my friends have become veterans. I carried out all the duties, all the operations, and all the conflicts I performed in line with the orders, duties, and responsibilities given by my state. Today, I am a Turkish soldier who feels a sense of responsibility toward the children of the friends I held as they were martyred in my arms. You would agree that the process initiated, the invitation of the PKK terrorist organization's leader to parliament, him being called a founding leader, and the portrayal of this baby killer as if he were the leader of all our citizens of Kurdish origin and bringing him into a legitimate sphere has touched a nerve and hurt me, just as it would any child of Turkey.”
