Following this development, Akın's participation in the Republic Day wreath-laying ceremony sparked controversy in the district.

During the ceremony held in the district, CHP council members and numerous citizens staged a silent protest by turning their backs while İbrahim Akın was laying a wreath at the monument.

While there was no verbal reaction during the protest, the citizens' act of turning their backs drew attention.

“SOVEREIGNTY BELONGS TO THE NATION” MESSAGE FROM CHP

After the official ceremony concluded, the CHP Bayrampaşa District Presidency presented its own wreath at the monument. The phrase “Sovereignty Belongs to the Nation” was inscribed on the wreath.
