Protest crisis at Eyüpsultan Anatolian High School! Forced holiday declared, teacher dismissed

Student protests against the removal of teachers from project schools continue to be the scene of striking interventions. The most notable example of these interventions took place at Eyüpsultan Anatolian High School.  

According to the report in Cumhuriyet, school Principal Serkan Akgöl, in a WhatsApp voice message sent to 12th-grade representatives on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in order to prevent a repeat of the protests that took place last week, used the phrases "You are on leave for a week, you will not come to school."  

12th-grade students who wanted to go to school on Monday morning were not allowed in under the principal's instructions. This decision caused controversy among students and parents.  

TEACHER WHO SUPPORTED THE PROTEST SUSPENDED

Hasan Koçali, one of the school's teachers, was also dismissed on the grounds that he supported the students participating in the protests. The suspension decision was caused by a report submitted by District Director of National Education Zeliha Yıldız to the District Governorship.  

The report stated that Koçali "engaged in protest actions, did not attend classes, protested with various materials, did not comply with the warnings of the school administration, and encouraged students to hold a sit-in and subsequently march," while expressing that this situation "disrupted the peaceful environment within the school and hindered the educational process."
