Public transport fare hike in Istanbul

The third session of the IMM Council's July meetings was held at the municipal building in Saraçhane, chaired by the Council's 2nd Deputy Speaker Gencay Özcan.

During the council meeting, the agenda item titled "Public Transport Fare Tariff Regulation," which includes a 10 percent price increase for public transport vehicles in the city such as buses, subways, Metrobuses, minibuses, and ferries, as well as for taxis and school shuttles, was discussed.

In this context, it was requested that the electronic full ticket be increased from 42 liras to 46.20 liras, the student ticket from 20.50 liras to 22.55 liras, the "Blue Card" monthly subscription fee from 3 thousand 298 liras to 3 thousand 628 liras, and the student monthly subscription fee from 593 liras to 653 liras.

The proposal included increasing the Metrobüs fare for a 1-stop journey from 30.07 liras to 33.08 liras, and for a journey of 34-43 stops or more from 62.35 liras to 68.59 liras.

For Marmaray, it was proposed to increase the fare for a 1-3 station journey from 34 liras to 37.40 liras, and for a 36-43 station journey from 74.70 liras to 82.17 liras.

In maritime transport, it was proposed to increase the Üsküdar-Eminönü fare from 53.20 liras to 58.52 liras, the Kadıköy-Eminönü and Kadıköy-Beşiktaş fares from 59.28 liras to 65.21 liras, and the Bostancı-Adalar fare from 156.26 liras to 171.89 liras.

It was requested that the taxi meter opening fee be increased from 65.40 liras to 71.94 liras, the distance fee per kilometer from 43.56 liras to 47.92 liras, the time tariff fee from 544.45 liras to 598.90 liras per hour, and the short-distance fee from 210 liras to 230 liras.

For minibuses, it was requested that the short-distance fare, described as "indi-bindi" (hop-on hop-off), be increased from 39 liras to 43 liras for distances up to 4 kilometers, from 41 liras to 45 liras for 4 to 7 kilometers, from 42 liras to 46 liras for 7 to 11 kilometers, from 43 liras to 47 liras for 11 to 15 kilometers, from 47 liras to 52 liras for 15 to 20 kilometers, and the student fare from 25 liras to 28 liras.

While the request to increase school shuttle fees for distances between 0 and 1 kilometer from 4 thousand 51 liras to 4 thousand 456 liras, and personnel shuttle fees from 2 thousand 284.54 liras to 2 thousand 512.99 liras was included in the agenda item, it was noted that the new tariff would be effective from July 20.

In the vote held at the council, the agenda item titled "Public Transport Fare Tariff Regulation," which includes a 10 percent hike for public transport, taxis, and school shuttles in the city, was accepted by a majority vote with the support of the CHP group, despite the "no" vote from the AK Party.
