Publication ban imposed: Decision regarding the attacker who stabbed 5 people in Eskişehir

In Eskişehir, an attacker entered a garden wearing a mask and equipment and attacked citizens in the area. While 5 people were injured as a result of the incident, it was revealed that the attacker had live-streamed those moments on his social media account.

The attacker, Arda K., who was wearing a helmet on his head, an axe at his waist, a mask on his face, and a tactical vest, was taken into custody by the police and brought to Eskişehir Yunus Emre State Hospital for a health check following his processing at the police station.

KNIFE-WIELDING ATTACKER ARRESTED

The 18-year-old attacker, Arda K., who was referred to the courthouse under heavy security measures after the health check, has been arrested.

EYEWITNESSES SPOKE OUT

Yakup Taşçı, one of the eyewitnesses to the incident that dominated Turkey's agenda, told reporters that his attention was drawn to a young man outside due to his attire while he was at home.

Stating that he observed him from his home, Taşçı said, "I thought he was going to get on a motorcycle. He put on his helmet, then walked away from here. He took some things out of bags and put them on. He left what he brought with him here. There was a black bag. Then I notified the police. Later, he attacked the elderly people."

Muharrem K. also explained that he saw an injured person near the tram stop after the attack.

Stating that he handed over a tissue to help the injured person, Muharrem K. said, "Citizens who were helping were trying to dress the wound with papers they found on the ground. There were 3 people I saw injured here. He had a different outfit. Later, the police caught him."

THEY MOVED FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED 3 YEARS AGO

Uluönder Neighborhood Headman Hasan Güler stated that when he learned about the attack and went to the scene, the police had already neutralized the attacker, Arda K., and taken him to the police headquarters.

Stating that they tried to help the injured, Güler noted the following:

"He used to live in our neighborhood. They moved to Çamlıca Neighborhood 3 years ago. I don't know his childhood, but the family is a quiet couple working in a factory. He is one of the family's 2 children. He was introverted. The person who carried out the incident must have acquaintances here because he spent his childhood here."

It was learned that the suspect's processing at the police station is ongoing, and that 3 of the injured at Eskişehir City Hospital are in intensive care as a precaution, while the others are continuing their treatment in wards.

PUBLICATION BAN IMPOSED

On the other hand, a publication ban decision was taken regarding the incident.

According to the decision taken by the duty Magistrate Judge regarding the incident, a publication ban has been imposed until the investigation is completed "to prevent the publication of the incident in all written and visual press, media, and any kind of news and broadcasts in visual and written radio/newspapers, internet sites, and other news organizations under the names of news, interviews, programs, criticism, and similar, except for the main headlines that carry news value regarding informing the public, and to prevent the incident from being reported in a way that would affect the course of the investigation."

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Arda K. (18), who came to the tea garden in Şehit Rüstem Demirbaş Park on Rauf Orbay Street in Uluönder Neighborhood, had attacked some people with a knife.

T.A. (71), C.Ö. (57), N.Ö. (87), M.K. (64), and C.A. (64), who were sitting in the tea garden and the park, were injured with a knife in the attack. The attacker, who had a helmet on his head, an axe at his waist, a mask on his face, and a tactical vest on, was taken into custody by the police.
