Published in the Official Gazette: New restriction from the Ministry on alcoholic beverage service

The "Communiqué on Service Materials Used in Establishments Holding an Open Alcoholic Beverage Sales License," prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has been published in the Official Gazette. With this communiqué, rules have been established regarding the use of service materials bearing alcohol brands, emblems, or logos at points of alcoholic beverage consumption.

According to the communiqué, materials used for serving beverages whose original packaging has been opened in such establishments—including glasses, goblets, carafes, decanters, bottle openers and corkscrews, trays and ice buckets, beer tap systems, special mats on service counters, as well as containers, measures, and stirrers used for preparing mixed drinks—may only be used for serving alcoholic beverages.

Only the brand names, emblems, or logos found on the original packaging of alcoholic beverages permitted for market release may be used on these materials, and no other expressions related to alcoholic beverages may be included. The use of these materials for any purpose other than serving alcoholic beverages is now prohibited.

If it is determined that materials are being used in violation of the established rules, this will be considered as containing advertising and promotion, and an administrative fine will be imposed. The provisions of the communiqué will enter into force 6 months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
