Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu attended the opening of the Çekmeköy-Sancaktepe-Sultanbeyli metro line.
While İmamoğlu was speaking, a person in the area protested him by showing the Quran she was holding. İmamoğlu responded to the person protesting him by saying, "If you want to gift it to me, I will take the Quran from you."
As the crowd at the rally booed the woman, İmamoğlu called for 'calm' and said the following;
"Calm down, our sister has been deceived. Slandering with the holy Quran in one's hand is the greatest of sins. May God help her. May God help her during the blessed month of Ramadan. These friends have even deceived sisters like her. They have even ruined them."
REFERENCE TO ERDOĞAN: MAY GOD REFORM THEM
Making a reference to the rally held by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan with a Quran, İmamoğlu expressed his reaction with the words, "May God reform those who take the holy Quran in their hands and use it for politics."
