Radiation allegations at Bingöl State Hospital: Thyroid nodules detected in staff working in that unit

It has been reported that thyroid nodules have been detected in many of the healthcare workers in the angiography unit of Bingöl State Hospital. It is stated that these health problems have emerged as a result of personnel spending more time than recommended in a radiation-exposed environment. According to the report by Cumhuriyet, sources confirming the allegations stated that at least seven healthcare workers in the angiography unit have such nodules.

Hospital officials announced that assessments are being made regarding whether there is a radiation leak, but that no leaks were found in the initial examinations.

THEY WORK MORE THAN 35 HOURS

One of the healthcare workers said, "The standard weekly working time in units where there is radiation is 35 hours. However, we are forced to work overtime due to staff shortages." Another healthcare worker in the same unit stated that these health problems have been increasing over the last six months, that environmental measurements have been taken, but that no radiation leak has been detected. It was noted that requests for additional staff have not been met despite the staff shortages and increasing health problems.
