Raids on 2 addresses in Istanbul: Millions of Euros in counterfeit money seized!

Teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Bureau, under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, carried out work aimed at preventing the crimes of "counterfeiting currency and forgery of official documents" and apprehending the suspects.

Following reports in social media platforms and national media that counterfeit foreign currency was circulating in the market, police teams obtained information that counterfeit money was being printed in the Fatih and Zeytinburnu districts as a result of field studies and closed-source system research.

Within the scope of the investigation, raids were carried out on 2 separate addresses identified in the Fatih and Zeytinburnu districts.

During the operation, 3 thousand counterfeit banknotes with the number 100 on them without watermarks, 1 thousand 500 counterfeit banknotes with the number 100 on them and featuring the Euro banknote watermark, transparent and matte molds with Euro watermarks, UV lights, printing machines, and check leaves bearing the emblems of private and state-owned banks were seized.

A total of 3 million 600 thousand Euros worth of counterfeit banknotes, ready to be printed and released into the market, were seized for destruction, while 1 suspect was apprehended and taken into custody during the raid.

The apprehended suspect was taken to the police station for questioning. The suspect's interrogation by the police is ongoing.
