Rain turns into an ordeal in Istanbul: Traffic comes to a standstill

Traffic congestion occurred in Istanbul due to the rainfall that took place in the morning hours. It was observed that passengers trying to get to work created crowds at tram, metro, bus, and metrobus stops. At the same time, it was determined that drivers were moving slowly due to vehicle traffic.

Passengers getting off public transport vehicles at transfer points and trying to reach the stops from the turnstile area created congestion.

Crowds are drawing attention at the Cevizlibağ, Mecidiyeköy, and Altunizade metrobus exits and E-5 connection points.

Traffic congestion is being experienced at the D-100 highway Haliç Bridge, Mecidiyeköy, and Zincirlikuyu locations, as well as the 15 July Martyrs Bridge, the TEM highway Hasdal, Seyrantepe, Nurtepe Viaduct, Büyükdere Street, and the Levent TEM highway junction.

In the morning hours, a slowdown in traffic flow was observed at the points connecting to the 15 July Martyrs Bridge.

There is congestion on the main arteries in Esenyurt and Avcılar.

ANATOLIAN SIDE TRAFFIC COMES TO A STANDSTILL

Traffic is heavy on the route from the TEM Highway Sancaktepe to the Ataşehir junction. In the other direction, vehicle traffic extends to the Sultanbeyli and Pendik junction.

Traffic density is notable in both directions in the region between Maltepe and the Eurasia Tunnel.

While vehicle density is prominent between the Kozyatağı Junction and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, there is congestion in the opposite direction between the Ümraniye-TEM Connection Road and Kozyatağı.

Due to a technical failure on the T1 Kabataş-Bağcılar Tram Line, services were operated between the Kabataş-Güngören stations. Crowds formed at the stations, but services returned to normal after the failure was resolved in a short time.

MARITIME TRANSPORT ALSO AFFECTED

Disruptions also occurred in maritime transport in the city due to bad weather.

In a statement made by City Lines (Şehir Hatları), it was reported that some services could not be operated until further notice due to adverse weather conditions.

Stating that there were disruptions in the Bostancı-Moda-Kadıköy-Kabataş services regarding the Moda Pier stop due to adverse weather conditions, the statement noted that the Aşiyan stops would be made via the Bebek Pier until further notice.

According to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Cep Trafik application, traffic density across the city was measured at 81 percent as of 09:11.
