Rainy weather is coming: Temperatures are dropping in Istanbul

Critical hours have begun for the rainy and cool weather that has been expected in Istanbul for days. The system arriving from the Balkans is first making its impact felt with storms and downpours in the Marmara region, and will spread to a wider part of the country over the weekend.

According to forecasts, the precipitation is expected to become more pronounced on Saturday. Rainfall is predicted to be very heavy in some places along the Black Sea coast and heavy in the interior. A noticeable drop in air temperatures is also expected with the arrival of the system.

Temperatures in Istanbul are expected to drop to 23-24 degrees on Saturday, while they are forecast to fall to around 20 degrees in Ankara. Experts point out that this system, arriving in the middle of summer, could pull temperatures down by approximately 10-11 degrees.

SUCCESSIVE WARNINGS FOR ISTANBUL

AKOM and the Istanbul Governor's Office called on citizens to be careful and take precautions, stating that the rainfall could increase in intensity towards the weekend. The warnings urged measures to be taken against risks of flash floods, water inundation, strong winds, and disruptions in transportation.

The storm and southwesterly wind (lodos) that intensified in the city yesterday evening negatively affected life in many districts. In some areas, particularly Silivri, Esenyurt, Küçükçekmece, Kağıthane, Başakşehir, Avcılar, and Arnavutköy, citizens had difficulty walking due to the wind.

Due to the severe wind, roofs were blown off, trees were uprooted, and transportation disruptions occurred. It was stated that some citizens were slightly injured and that teams have increased security measures across the city.

In Küçükçekmece, it was reported that parts torn from the roof of a 5-story building, which had been evacuated as part of urban transformation, were blown onto two apartment buildings opposite, causing damage to the apartments.

The rainy system is expected to continue its effect on Monday in Istanbul, the eastern part of Marmara, and the Black Sea region. According to forecasts, the rainy weather will give way to warm weather again in the following days of the new week.
