Reaction from KDK to Yerlikaya: 'Enough is enough! You will explain, you will be held accountable, Minister of Interior!'
The Women's Solidarity Committees (KDK) reacted sharply to Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya following the fatal shootings of two young girls in Istanbul and Mersin: "Enough is enough! You will explain, you will be held accountable!"
The Women's Solidarity Committees (KDK) issued a statement reacting to the Ministry of Interior for failing to fulfill its responsibilities in the face of rising murders, following the fatal shootings of two young girls in Istanbul and Mersin just two days apart.
The statement, which asserts that the Ministry is complicit in the murders, included the following remarks: "We will not allow you to cover up these murders by labeling them as 'lover's quarrels' or to boast about catching the killers. We asked before and we ask again: Are guns being sold in supermarkets in this country? Explain how killers are accessing weapons, Minister of Interior!"
The full text of the KDK statement is as follows:
Enough is enough! You will explain, you will be held accountable, Minister of Interior! #youareguilty
Not even two days after the death of the 15-year-old girl killed at Boğaziçi University, another 16-year-old girl was killed in Mersin.
A firearm was used in both murders. In the murder that took place in Boğaziçi, it is understood from reports reflected in the press that the weapon was unlicensed. The Mersin Governorship also stated in its announcement that an unlicensed weapon was found in the individuals' vehicle. Minister of Interior @AliYerlikaya
is still silent!
We will not allow you to cover up these murders by labeling them as 'lover's quarrels' or to boast about catching the killers.
We asked before and we ask again: Are guns being sold in supermarkets in this country? Explain how killers are accessing weapons, Minister of Interior!
As long as this gang order continues, we know that your hand is also on that trigger that kills our young girls. We declare: The Ministry of Interior is an accomplice to these murders.
While 57% of femicides in 2024 were committed with firearms, Minister Ali Yerlikaya remained silent. In 2025, the murders continue unabated and the Minister continues to remain silent. Enough is enough!
