Reaction from the Palace to Hadise's UNICEF message: 'Seeing Turkey as in need of aid...'
A Ramadan-themed aid video prepared by famous singer Hadise for UNICEF has drawn sharp criticism from Chief Advisor to the President Oktay Saral. Saral described Hadise's mention of Turkey in the same sentence as countries in need of aid like Gaza and Sudan as "unacceptable" and characterized her statements as "lack of foresight."
In a video prepared for UNICEF, Hadise made a call for aid for children in need during the month of Ramadan. In the video, the singer stated, “Ramadan is a month of sharing and solidarity.
UNICEF is always by the side of children in the most difficult situations. Because no child should go hungry. From Turkey to Gaza, from Sudan to Africa, children are in need of hope at iftar tables. To make a real difference in a child's life, you can make your Ramadan donations to UNICEF.”
OKTAY SARAL: 'UNACCEPTABLE'
Following these remarks by Hadise, Chief Advisor to the President Oktay Saral made a statement on his social media account. Saral reacted sharply to the expressions in Hadise's video, evaluating her portrayal of Turkey as being among countries 'in need of aid' in the same sentence as Gaza and Sudan as an unacceptable stance.
Saral said the following in his statement:
“It is an unacceptable stance for Hadise to show Turkey among countries ‘in need of aid’ in the same sentence as Gaza and Sudan in the video she prepared for UNICEF. Turkey is not the subject of crisis regions, but a country that brings aid to them. Placing one's own country in the same category as geographies struggling with war and hunger is a stance detached from reality and one that damages the country's reputation.”
