Reaction from Ümit Özdağ to Mehmet Şimşek: Why didn't you take any measures?

Özdağ expressed his reaction to Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek over the investigation into the stock market and money market funds. 

Ümit Özdağ used the following expressions in his statement on his social media account:

"My dear citizens, as you know, a major collapse occurred in the stock market on September 15-16, and approximately 20 billion dollars belonging to 517 thousand of our citizens in money market funds practically evaporated. This amount corresponds to approximately 5 times the 2001 banking crisis. In other words, the savings of approximately 20 billion dollars of our citizens who invested their savings in 131 funds to be liquidated have disappeared. The total value of shares registered on the stock exchange decreased by a total of 45 billion dollars. I ask Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek: In your speech on November 4, 2025, you stated that you would increase penalties to combat manipulation in the stock and fund markets, that you were aware that manipulative transactions and speculations were being carried out, especially through certain investment and equity funds, and that the Stock Exchange should not be seen as a speculation or playground. Despite this, why have you not taken any measures in the 11 months that have passed?

Furthermore, last May, the international index provider Morgan Stanley Capital International issued warnings to Turkey and Borsa İstanbul, specifically regarding market transparency and suspicions of manipulation. You did not take this into account either. So, some people abroad know what is happening in Istanbul. Don't you know? As the Zafer Party, we want the answers to these questions to be given as soon as possible to the fund owners, who were directly harmed and who, together with their families, amount to a mass of 2 million people. We also demand that you share the exact figures regarding the issue with the public without distortion. In addition, we demand that the public be immediately informed about the allegations of favoritism and dubious relationships, as well as the irregular authorizations granted regarding the owners of Tera Grup, Pusula Portföy, Pusula Finans Holding, and KatılımEv, who played a leading role in these developments. We also know that the Capital Markets Board's failure to take the necessary measures in this regard should be clearly shared with the public. And we expect you to do this.

Mr. Minister, these citizens of ours did not take the savings they earned with their hard work and from the essential expenses of their families and put them on a roulette table. They did not play poker. They did not go gambling. These citizens trusted those who were licensed by public institutions and who had photos with many state officials, and they invested in these funds that are under the supervision of the CMB, included in the official fund list TEFAS, and whose transparency is guaranteed by the state through the Public Disclosure Platform. It is understood that despite the warnings of international institutions and experts on the subject in the country, the AK Party government has not fulfilled its duties towards these people. From this point on, without any delay, it is a vital necessity to first seize all assets of those who committed this fraud, both domestically and abroad, and to compensate for the grievances of our citizens who were harmed by this robbery. Because what is happening in this collapse in the stock market, beyond the crisis in the general economy, will lead to a great psychological and social destruction that could extend to the deterioration of our people's family structures and even suicides. As the Zafer Party, we will follow up on the matter for the resolution of all kinds of problems of the Turkish people and we will constantly share our solutions with the valuable public."
