Reactions to Israel continue to rise in the EU: Criticism of 'disproportionate force' from Italy

Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani made assessments regarding current issues during a program on Radio1.

In his remarks, Tajani also criticized the attacks on the Gaza Strip. While stating that they do not characterize the attacks as 'genocide,' Tajani said they find the attacks 'disproportionate.'

Tajani used the following expressions in his statement:

"At this point, Israel's response has become disproportionate. There are too many victims who have lost their lives and have nothing to do with Hamas."

The Italian Minister called on Israel to avoid reprisals against the Palestinian civilian population.

Referring to the "Stop the genocide" call by Tunisian-born Italian rapper Ghali Amdouni, Tajani stated, "I do not believe that a genocide is taking place there (in Gaza). Israel is definitely at fault because it is causing the deaths of too many civilians. We must aim for the release of the hostages and an end to the intensity of the Israeli attacks."
