Reasoned decision in the Eros the cat case released
The court decided to release Keloğlan, citing his attendance at all hearings and the lack of suspicion that he might flee abroad as reasons.
The reasoned decision in the Eros case has been released. The fact that İbrahim Keloğlan, who was on trial for killing Eros, attended all hearings was one of the reasons for his release.
According to the report by Meral Candan from Gazete Duvar, the reasoned decision stated that all evidence had been collected, Keloğlan had attended the hearings, and that detention is a precautionary measure. Furthermore, considering that this was not an action regarding the execution of a sentence, it was decided to punish Keloğlan with judicial control measures, specifically a travel ban prohibiting him from leaving the country.
The decision also cited the "possible effects of the sentence on the defendant's future" as the justification for the 1/6 reduction applied to the 3-year sentence.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The incident began on January 1, 2024, at approximately 03:15, when Eros, a cat living in a residential complex in Küçükçekmece and cared for by the residents, encountered İbrahim Keloğlan in the building's elevator. Security camera footage showed Keloğlan beginning to kick Eros in the elevator.
As Eros tried to escape the elevator, Keloğlan followed him, closed the doors in the hallway to prevent his escape, and continued to inflict violence. Eros lost his life after 6 minutes of violence.
The court sentenced Keloğlan to 2 years and 6 months in prison, applying a reduction along with a travel ban. In a petition dated March 18, the Public Prosecutor stated that the decision was legally and procedurally incorrect and that they would appeal to the appellate court.
