Release decision for Leman cartoonist

Leman magazine cartoonist Doğan Pehlevan had been in detention for approximately 5 months as part of an investigation launched due to a cartoon published on June 26. Pehlevan was taken into custody as part of an investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility or insulting them."

 Following the cartoon, which was alleged to have insulted religious values, a group attacked the magazine's building. After this incident, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation.

RELEASE DECISION ISSUED AT THE FIRST HEARING

A release decision was issued at the first hearing to end Doğan Pehlevan's detention. Pehlevan was released following this decision. However, Pehlevan's detention will continue due to another case in which he is still being tried for a different criminal file.
