Release in Kartalkaya hotel fire investigation

A detention review hearing was held for some of the suspects currently in custody as part of the investigation.

At the hearing held at the Bolu 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance, a release decision was issued for firefighter İrfan Acar, whose lawyer had appealed his detention.

Acar was released from the prison where he was being held after his procedures were completed.

Following the decision, the number of suspects remaining in custody as part of the investigation has become 19.

HOW THE PROCESS DEVELOPED

In the fire that broke out on January 21 at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the Bolu Kartalkaya Ski Center, 78 people had lost their lives.

Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the fire, 41 suspects were taken into custody. Among them, 28 suspects—including hotel owner Halit Ergül, his wife Emine Mürtezaoğlu Ergül, their daughters Elif Aras and Ceyda Hacıbekiroğlu, hotel general manager Emir Aras, Deputy Mayor of Bolu responsible for the fire department Sedat Gülener, Provincial Special Administration Secretary General Sırrı Köstereli, Provincial Special Administration Licensing and Inspection Manager Yeliz Erdoğan, former Provincial Special Administration Licensing and Inspection Manager and Seben District Special Administration Manager Mehmet Özel, and acting Fire Department Chief Kenan Coşkun—were arrested, while 13 people were released, 10 of them under judicial control.

In the detention review hearings held as part of the investigation, the release of 8 suspects had previously been decided.
