Release request for Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ
Following the European Court of Human Rights' (ECHR) third ruling of violation, a request for the release of former HDP Co-Chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ, as well as other detainees in the Kobani trial, was filed today.
Following his detention on November 4, 2016, from his home in Diyarbakır, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has issued another ruling of violation regarding former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, for whom the ECHR had previously issued two rulings of violation and the Constitutional Court (AYM) one, all calling for his release.
Following the ruling, lawyers took action to secure their release and subsequent acquittal, deciding to file a release request for Demirtaş, Figen Yüksekdağ, and all detainees in the Kobani trial.
The lawyers, who filed the release request today with the court that issued the verdict, will subsequently apply to the Court of Appeal, requesting an acquittal in accordance with the ECHR ruling, which also invalidated the evidence that formed the basis of the conviction.
