Remarkable comment from Ahmet Ercan regarding the 6.2 magnitude earthquake: 'I wish there were 4 more of these'

The 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri on April 23 drew attention to the North Marmara region. Geophysics Engineer Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan stated in a post on social media regarding this earthquake that it has reduced the magnitude of the expected major Marmara earthquake.

Ercan stated, "A non-destructive M6.2 earthquake in the North Marmara has reduced the expected earthquake by rupturing 28 km," expressing that such earthquakes could reduce the seismic risk in the region.

"THERE SHOULD BE MORE EARTHQUAKES"

In his statements, Prof. Dr. Ercan emphasized that if such earthquakes continue, the seismic danger in the region could decrease, saying, "I wish there were 4 more of these, so that the entire North Marmara could crack, split, and rupture without destruction or loss of life, and the earthquake threat for Istanbul, Tekirdağ, and Yalova would end."
