All eyes are on the Court of Appeal in the trial of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who faces a "political ban" for allegedly calling members of the Supreme Election Council (YSK) "fools".

Regarding the case against him, İmamoğlu stated, "It is a complete disgrace that a case that should never have existed has turned into a trial involving both a political ban and a 2-year-7-month prison sentence; even talking about this makes one feel bad."

Former AKP MP and Yeni Şafak columnist Mehmet Metiner shared a post on his social media account regarding İmamoğlu's trial.

"THE SAME THING THAT WAS DONE TO THE CHIEF"

Reminding that a political ban, similar to the one sought for İmamoğlu, was once imposed on AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Metiner used the following expressions:

"Just as designing politics through the judiciary is wrong, attempting to block a politician's path is also unacceptable.

We cannot be defenders of such lack of principle as not opposing it when the same thing that was done to the Chief in the past is done to someone else today. Those who do so will lose, let it be known!"
