Request for a parliamentary inquiry commission in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey regarding Epstein allegations

CHP İzmir MP Attorney Sevda Erdan Kılıç, in her recent speech at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), emphasized that the allegations concerning Turkey in the Jeffrey Epstein file, which has caused widespread repercussions in the international public, must be investigated. Kılıç stated that the allegations in question are of a serious nature and that the parliament must take immediate action to resolve the suspicions surrounding them.

Underlining that the Epstein case is not merely an individual criminal file, Kılıç stated, “The Epstein file has revealed a dirty order where power meets money, money meets immunity, and immunity meets impunity. The fact that Turkey's name is mentioned in this file is extremely serious. I submitted a parliamentary inquiry motion on this matter two years ago. My motion was kept waiting. Two whole years have passed. Now, the same allegations are coming to the agenda again.”

Touching upon the allegations in the documents that have continued to spark debate in Turkey for some time, which suggest that some underage girls were abducted from Turkey and taken to the island, Kılıç recalled that the emerging court records include both pilot testimonies and various money transfer reports. Emphasizing that the mention of Turkey's name in such documents must be clarified immediately, Kılıç said, “These are allegations for now. If true, this is a crime against humanity. If false, this heavy shadow over our country must be lifted immediately. The duty of the state is not to remain silent, but to reveal the truth.”

Furthermore, requesting that all documents regarding the Epstein file be demanded from US authorities in their entirety, Kılıç stated that information regarding missing children should be shared transparently with the public. Drawing attention to the importance of improving missing-person reporting and tracking systems, Kılıç said, “Data on missing children should be disclosed to the public transparently. Missing-person reporting and tracking mechanisms must be strengthened. All documents regarding the Epstein file should be requested from US authorities through official channels, uncensored and complete. Flight records, money transfers, correspondence, emails, and all contacts must be subjected to an independent and institutional review. The TBMM should not act according to the comfort of the executive, but according to the requirements of the Constitution and human dignity; a parliamentary inquiry commission must be established immediately.”

Stating that the process is a humanitarian issue that concerns the entire society beyond politics, Kılıç concluded her words as follows: “This issue is not a party issue. This issue is a humanitarian issue. If we remain silent here today, we will not be able to look any child in the eye tomorrow. Where children are concerned, there is no neutrality. You are either on the side of the child or on the side of silence. Uncovering this dirty order established over the lives of children is not a political choice; it is the final frontier of remaining human.”
