The opinion on the merits has been submitted to the court in the trial of 19 defendants, including the detained Mayor Tanju Özcan, who were charged as part of an extortion investigation conducted into the Bolu Municipality.
REQUEST FOR UP TO 217 YEARS IN PRISON FOR TANJU ÖZCAN
In the opinion submitted by the public prosecutor to the Bolu 3rd High Criminal Court, it was requested that effective remorse provisions be applied to the suspended mayor Tanju Özcan regarding the crime of "qualified fraud" against 32 victims, and that he be sentenced to a total of up to 217 years in prison for the crimes of "chain-linked extortion by coercion," "extortion by coercion," "attempted extortion by coercion," and "bribery."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Within the scope of the "extortion" investigation launched by the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the Bolu Municipality on February 28, 19 people were detained.
Tanju Özcan, deputy mayor Süleyman Can, and BolSev manager Ali Sarıyıldız were arrested, and the file of Mustafa Altındal, the head of the Bolu Köroğlu Tradesmen and Craftsmen Credit and Bail Cooperative and the Bolu Greengrocers and Vendors Chamber, who was arrested as part of a "bribery" operation, was merged with this case.
In the 178-page indictment prepared by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it is requested that Tanju Özcan be sentenced to a total of 90 years and 3 months to 263 years and 6 months in prison for his actions against each victim, specifically for 6 counts of "extortion by coercion," 3 counts of "attempted extortion," 34 counts of "qualified fraud," and 1 count of "bribery."
It is requested that Süleyman Can be sentenced to a total of 27 years and 6 months to 64 years in prison for 5 counts of "extortion by coercion" and 2 counts of "attempted extortion," and that Ali Sarıyıldız be sentenced to a total of 72 years, 7 months, and 15 days to 218 years and 9 months in prison for 6 counts of "aiding and abetting extortion," 3 counts of "attempted aiding and abetting extortion," and 34 counts of "qualified fraud."
In the indictment, prison sentences of varying lengths are also requested for the other defendants regarding these crimes.
