Requested sentence for lawyer Feyza Altun has been determined!

The sentence requested for lawyer Feyza Altun, who was targeted and detained due to a post about Sharia on her social media account and subsequently released under judicial control, has been determined.

The indictment prepared by the Beykoz Chief Public Prosecutor's Office recalled that an investigation was launched into Altun due to her post regarding Sharia on the social media platform "X".

In the indictment, which includes the statement she gave during the investigation, Altun admitted to making the post in question but stated that Sharia is not a religion but a political regime, and that she did not insult any religious belief. Altun did not accept the charges brought against her.

DEFINITION OF SHARIA ACCORDING TO TDK

The indictment stated that according to the Turkish Language Association (TDK), Sharia is defined as "Islamic law, Islamic jurisprudence based on the verses in the Quran and the words of Prophet Muhammad."

The indictment, which also included a report prepared by the Istanbul Police Department's Cyber Crimes Combat Branch, explained that the suspect's social media post drew intense reactions from thousands of users who perceived it as a severe attack on their religious values, and that in this context, a clear and imminent danger to public safety had arisen.

In this scope, the indictment emphasized that the suspect committed the alleged crime by publicly inciting a segment of the public with different characteristics based on religion to hatred and enmity against another segment through her post on the social networking site.

UP TO 3 YEARS IN PRISON REQUESTED

The indictment requested that Altun be sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison for the crime of "publicly inciting hatred and enmity."

Lawyer Feyza Altun, who was detained on February 19 as part of the investigation, was sent to the Beykoz Courthouse the following day after police procedures with a request for her arrest by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace. The court decided to release Altun under judicial control measures, which include a "travel ban" and the requirement to "sign in at a police station twice a week."
