Resignation at the Palace over Mehmet Akif Ersoy: The name replacing Furkan Torlak has been announced

The arrest of former Habertürk Editor-in-Chief Mehmet Akif Ersoy in a drug operation investigation continues to remain on the agenda.

Furkan Torlak, Coordinator of the Presidential Communications Directorate's Center for Combating Disinformation, whose name was mentioned in a report by the pro-government Sabah newspaper on the subject, had resigned from his post, noting that he and Mehmet Akif Ersoy had been friends since childhood.

Journalist Barış Terkoğlu wrote that following Furkan Torlak's resignation, Deniz Demir has been appointed as the DMM Coordinator from within the institution.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Allegations by a news anchor regarding Mehmet Akif Ersoy had appeared in the pro-government Sabah newspaper. The relevant part of the report, in which Furkan Torlak's name was also mentioned, is as follows:

"Mehmet Akif Ersoy introduced me to his friend Furkan T., who came from Ankara. One day, he said, 'We were going to go to a venue with Furkan T., taking Ayfer B. along as well.' However, instead of the venue, we went to a house rented by Akif. We stayed there for a long time with Furkan T. and Ayfer."

Torlak announced his resignation from his post with a statement he made following the Sabah report, using the following words:

"I have learned today that my name was mentioned in a news report regarding a judicial process in some press and media outlets and on social media platforms. It is a distressing situation for me that my name was mentioned in the news in question, which is disturbing in terms of its content and context, even though there is no accusation against me.

The journalist mentioned in the report, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, is a friend I have known since childhood, as is known to many. Although there is no allegation against me, I would like to emphasize that I have not personally engaged in any unlawful act.

However, the mention of the institution I work for in the context of such a report is the last thing I would ever want. The reputation of the state and its institutions is superior to the reputation of individuals. For this reason, in order to prevent the institution I serve from being damaged, I have decided to resign from the position I hold."
