Resignation in CHP: District chair withdraws candidacy and resigns

Incumbent CHP Salihli District Chair Enver Akgün, who was a candidate for the upcoming elections, along with other candidates Burak Kultaş, Mehmet Dönmez, and Olgun Özbudak, made a joint statement at the party headquarters.

Reading the joint statement, Olgun Özbudak said, "We invite all our members who engage in politics under the roof of the Republican People's Party to take a stand against such disciplinary offenses. It should not be forgotten that the Republican People's Party has a history of not bowing to pressure. For this reason, it is now inevitable that these events be urgently referred to the party's disciplinary boards at the headquarters, that necessary actions be taken against those responsible, and that our organization's trust and reputation in the eyes of the public and our members be restored in Salihli."

Noting that some NGOs, which should remain neutral in elections, as well as individuals in influential positions within the party, have interfered in the delegate elections through pressure and undemocratic methods, Özbudak stated that the CHP Headquarters must intervene in the ongoing process.

CHP Salihli District Chair Enver Akgün said, "Throughout the election process of the CHP Salihli District Presidency, I maintained my candidacy by remaining committed to our party's values and democratic principles. My goal was to move our party forward in Salihli and to strengthen our unity and solidarity. However, this process has created an unhealthy election environment, entirely due to the open and covert threats of certain institutions. We believe that a true democratic competition is not possible under these conditions. For this reason, in order not to harm the future of our party and our Salihli, I hereby announce to the public my decision to withdraw from my candidacy for district chair. Furthermore, as of today, I am also resigning from my position as District Chair."
