Gürdeniz expressed his reaction in a post on his social media account regarding the massive commercial sign located on the front facade of the Beşiktaş Naval Museum.
Cem Gürdeniz stated that he has visited nearly 80 naval museums and museum ships in about 50 countries to date, adding, "I do not recall another example where the facade of such an important museum, which represents a nation's maritime memory and naval history, is left in the shadow of a massive sign for a commercial business."
Emphasizing that the Beşiktaş Naval Museum is the memory space of Turkish naval power from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic, Gürdeniz said that priority and visibility should belong to the museum. Gürdeniz's post, in which he said, "Our greatest wish is for this mistake to be corrected as soon as possible," received numerous views and likes.
