Retired Colonel Orkun Özeller was detained following threats from Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) officials and members on social media after his remarks regarding MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.
It was learned that Özeller, who was issued a detention warrant on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility," "insult," and "insulting a public official," gave his statement at the Ordu Courthouse.

Özeller had previously reacted to the threats and insults he received after criticizing MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, stating, "Politicians are not deities. They are human and can be criticized. We know the situation of those who criticize the President. But isn't it quite thought-provoking that only those who criticize Mr. Bahçeli are threatened with death? I stand by my words. I will exercise all my rights to defense against these threats, which have no validity for me. I am also filing complaints in court," he had said.
