Retired police officer kills wife and son, decapitates them

The incident, which occurred recently in the Sancaktepe neighborhood of Istanbul's Bağcılar district, unfolded as follows.

According to information obtained by 12punto.com.tr, retired police officer Cengiz Bedir (54) shot and killed his wife, Zeynep Bedir (45), who was in the process of divorcing him and had been reported missing, and their son, Tarık Bedir (26). He then decapitated both bodies and placed them in sacks.

VEHICLE BROKE DOWN WHILE HEADING TO HIS FIELD

Cengiz Bedir, who had placed the bodies in his trunk, was heading to his hometown of Kırklareli to bury them in his field in the village. When his vehicle broke down on the road, Bedir buried the bodies he had removed from the trunk at the location where his vehicle had stopped.

FAMILIES FILED MISSING PERSONS REPORTS

Knowing that Zeynep Bedir had obtained a restraining order against Cengiz Bedir, relatives of both Zeynep Bedir and Cengiz Bedir went to the Istanbul Public Security Branch Directorate and filed missing persons reports.

The Istanbul police, who launched a search operation for the Bedir family, determined that Cengiz Bedir had last traveled to Çeşmeköy in Kırklareli. Cengiz Bedir was taken into custody during a search conducted with the joint efforts of the Kırklareli Provincial Police Department and the Provincial Gendarmerie Command. Cengiz Bedir confessed to killing his wife and son and stated that he had buried the bodies.
