Retrial continues in Hrant Dink murder case

The Hrant Dink murder case, in which public officials are being tried and for which the Court of Cassation has ordered a retrial for some defendants, is ongoing. Lawyers for the Dink family had previously filed a request for a criminal complaint against individuals such as Celalettin Cerrah, Ahmet İlhan Güler, and Engin Dinç.

The defendants being tried in the case include Ali Öz, Bekir Yokuş, Faruk Sarı, Gazi Günay, Hasan Durmuşoğlu, Mehmet Ayhan, Mehmet Ali Özkılıç, Muharrem Demirkale, Okan Şimşek, Onur Karakaya, Osman Gülbel, Şükrü Yıldız, Veysal Şahin, Volkan Şahin, and Yavuz Karakaya.

In the previous hearing held on July 16, lawyers for the Dink family presented their arguments in response to the prosecutor's opinion.

OPINION HAD BEEN PRESENTED

Hülya Deveci, one of the lawyers for the Dink family, drew attention to deficiencies during the investigation phase, pointing out that the path leading to the murder was not properly investigated and that protective measures for Dink were not taken in Istanbul.

At the end of her statement, Deveci said, "We request that your court file a criminal complaint under Article 309 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) against Celalettin Cerrah, Ahmet İlhan Güler, Reşat Altay, Engin Dinç, Ercan Demir, Muhittin Zenit, Sabri Uzun, and Hacı Ömer Ünalır, and that a decision be made to punish Volkan Şahin under Article 83 of the TCK."

In the previous hearing, the court decided to continue the detention of those in custody, to take the defense statements of Muharrem Demirkale and Yavuz Karakaya regarding the merits in the next hearing, and to continue the house arrest of Ali Öz, while granting him 3 days of leave.
