Revealed that Kılıçdaroğlu used them: Press advisor Sönmez says 'the vehicles were chosen symbolically'

The names of organized crime leader Aziz İhsan Aktaş and detained Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım were written on the license plates of two luxury Mercedes cars displayed in front of the CHP Headquarters.

While the note left on the vehicles reading "PURCHASED WITH ILLICIT MONEY" drew attention, former CHP deputy Barış Yarkadaş, a figure close to Kılıçdaroğlu who first shared the photos with the public, claimed that one of the vehicles was purchased with money from Aziz İhsan Aktaş, an informant in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) case, and that the other was customized for 10 million TL by the detained Özkan Yalım. 

VEHICLES TURNED OUT TO BE PARTY PROPERTY

Following these allegations, Özgür Karabat, who serves as the Deputy Chairman in charge of Administrative and Financial Affairs under CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, stated that the car alleged to have been purchased with Aziz İhsan Aktaş's money was bought from a Mercedes dealership by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's administration in 2022. 

After it was revealed that the vehicle with 'Özkan Yalım' on its license plate was similarly purchased by the CHP administration from a Mercedes dealership this year and had no connection to Özkan Yalım, a statement regarding the allegations came from Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's Press Advisor Atakan Sönmez. 

VEHICLES WERE CHOSEN 'SYMBOLICALLY'

According to the report in Sözcü, Sönmez, in his statement regarding the images, indicated that contrary to Yarkadaş's claims, the vehicles had no direct connection to Aziz İhsan Aktaş or Özkan Yalım, and that two vehicles were chosen at random from the CHP inventory and displayed 'symbolically' in front of the CHP Headquarters due to the allegations and investigations concerning both individuals.

Stating that they would conduct the necessary investigation into the allegations and the vehicles registered to the CHP, Sönmez said, "If there is no suspicion, this is the property of the CHP and it stays in its parking lot. We did the display here to show the risk," he stated.
