Revenue Administration had proposed 3,000 TL: AKP officials reportedly 'objected' to the foreign travel exit fee

The proposal by the Revenue Administration, which operates under the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, to increase the foreign travel exit fee from 150 TL to 3,000 TL and to have the fee adjusted annually according to the revaluation rate, has sparked public backlash.

OBJECTION FROM THE AKP

While debates regarding the 'restriction of freedom of travel' continue, the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, reported that AKP officials objected to the Revenue Administration's proposal.

It was stated that the AKP leadership wants the foreign travel exit fee to be 1,000 or 1,500 liras.

“THE FEE WILL NOT BE 3,000 TL”

It was learned that the final decision on the figure will be made after an evaluation with AKP Chairman and President Tayyip Erdoğan. AKP sources stated that the fee will not be 3,000 liras.

It was noted that if the foreign travel exit fee is set at 1,500 liras, calculations based on the number of foreign departures in 2023 indicate that approximately 13 billion liras in revenue would flow into the Treasury in one year. Of the 150-lira foreign travel exit fee applied since 2022, 15 liras had been transferred to TOKİ. The amount to be transferred to TOKİ under the new fee structure will be determined by a presidential decree.
