Revolution Party Chairman Erçin Fırat speaks on US-Iran tensions: 'The only way out is for the imperialists to be defeated'

As tensions in the Middle East rise, all eyes were on the statements US President Donald Trump would make regarding Iran. In response to Iran's stance on the agreement, Trump maintained his determination for Iran to stop its nuclear weapons production, while negotiations held at the Omani Embassy residence in Geneva have concluded.

'A VERY GREAT THREAT TO ALL PEOPLES'

Although denied by the Center for Combating Disinformation, a Bloomberg report titled “NATO is said to be intensifying its surveillance over Iran as tensions with the US rise” has left question marks in people's minds. Revolution Party Chairman Erçin Fırat evaluated the path the current government in Turkey might follow against the Iran-US tension. Fırat stated, “We all see that Iran has been trying to be encircled by US imperialism and Israel for a long time. Although the AKP administration avoids coming face-to-face with Iran in this process, it has always acted together with the Western bloc. Erdoğan's role in the fall of Syria, one of Iran's important allies, last year is frequently and praisefully mentioned, especially by Trump.

However, it must be emphasized that there is a disagreement regarding Iran. Turkey's longest-standing border is with Iran. These two countries have not claimed any rights over each other's territory for a very long time, and this border is an important source of stability for both countries. The Israeli side, in particular, aims to destroy the ‘axis of resistance’ as a whole while conditions are favorable, while the AKP demands that imperialist plans be operated in a more long-term and controlled manner.

A possible attack on Iran means a very great threat not only for the Iranian people but for all peoples living in the region, including us. In this context, the statements made by Trump's special Middle East envoy Tom Barrack regarding the reality of tribes rather than nations in the region should also be evaluated.”

'IT WOULD NOT BE A SURPRISE IF THEY PLAY THE SABOTAGE CARD'

Russian President Putin announced that he had received information that there could be attacks against the natural gas pipelines called “Turkish Stream” and “Blue Stream.” Regarding its relationship with the US-Iran tension in the region, Fırat said, “We can only establish an indirect relationship with the Iran tension. Especially with the start of the Ukraine-Russia war, such sabotage has been resorted to frequently. Some of the attacks by imperialists against Russia's fragile economy, which is dependent on raw material exports, were carried out with threats of economic sanctions, while others were in the form of direct sabotage.

Unlike Russia, Turkey is a country dependent on its region for energy resources. For this reason, US-based sanctions remain practically inapplicable for Turkey. In fact, this situation can sometimes even lead to Turkish companies acting as intermediaries for the circumvention of sanctions for certain commissions. It is clear that this situation poses a problem for imperialism. The effect of agreements made for a solution is limited. For example, the scale of the LNG agreement made between Turkey and the US corresponds to only 20 percent of the natural gas Turkey receives from Russia each year.

For this reason, it would not be a surprise if imperialist centers play the sabotage card in Turkey-Russia or Turkey-Iran trade.”

'THERE IS NO ROUTE OTHER THAN DESTRUCTION FOR IMPERIALISM'

Trump reiterated after the Congressional meeting that Iran's development of nuclear weapons is unacceptable. Regarding how this tension might progress and what it might result in, Fırat said, “Although the issue of nuclear weapons stands at the center, the issue is certainly not limited to this. The existence of Iran as an independent and sovereign state separate from the Western bloc creates problems for the West for various historical reasons. The possibility of Iran gaining nuclear power could make it practically impossible to eliminate this situation, which is seen as a problem by the imperialists, through armed intervention. Therefore, it is natural that it causes fear.

We have no way of knowing whether the decision has been made or what steps will be taken in the short term. However, it is known that the US wants to focus more on the American continent within the scope of the new Monroe Doctrine and therefore expects assurances to divert its attention from the Middle East. The extent to which this expectation of the US is satisfied in negotiations will be decisive in what will happen regarding Iran in the short term.

In the long term, there is no route other than destruction for imperialism. For those who want freedom, peace, and prosperity in the region, the only way out is for the imperialists to be defeated.”
