Roadmap in the Aegean becomes clearer: Prof. Dr. Nurettin Demir emerges as CHP's candidate in Muğla

Turkey has entered an election atmosphere once again. The agenda of the political world and the citizens is the local elections...

Undoubtedly, the most prominent issue in the local elections is whether the main opposition party, the CHP, which suffered a defeat in the general elections held on May 14, 2023, will be able to retain the metropolitan municipalities...

It is observed that Ekrem İmamoğlu, whose candidacy in Istanbul is certain, stands out in the race regardless of whether an alliance is formed or not.

Although there are quite a few people who think that metropolitan municipalities can only be maintained by forming an alliance, IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener had stated that they would compete with their own candidates in the local elections.

There are three mayors in the Republican People's Party (CHP) whose candidacies are considered certain. These names are Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, and Aydın Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu.

It is also anticipated that Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar and Mersin Metropolitan Mayor Vahap Seçer will likely be candidates.

However, it is known that there are deputies who oppose Vahap Seçer's candidacy in particular, and that lobbying is taking place within the party to prevent Seçer from being nominated again.

As announced by Chair Özgür Özel, the Republican People's Party will determine its election strategy based on narrowed-down research results. The results of research requested from different polling companies will be examined, and the expectations of the citizens will be evaluated.

The Republican People's Party has accelerated its local election efforts, especially in the Aegean Region. It has been learned that the field research, which was announced to begin in December, has already started.

According to information obtained by 12punto from two different field research companies, the prominent candidate for the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality is Prof. Dr. Nurettin Demir, who served as a member of parliament for three terms in the past.

In the candidacy research where several questions were asked, the factors that make Demir stand out in the eyes of the citizens drew attention. It was learned that citizens evaluating Demir emphasized his identity as a 'scientist-doctor from Muğla' and defined him with the identity of a 'unifying elder brother' who produces solutions to the problems of the people of Muğla.

Prof. Dr. Nurettin Demir, who is the founding dean of the Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Faculty of Medicine, also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkey Promotion, Research, Democracy and Secular Formation Foundation.

Although Demir himself has not made any statement regarding his candidacy for the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, according to information obtained from CHP circles, it is being discussed that Demir's name is also coming to the fore at the Headquarters.

(Prof. Dr. Nurettin Demir)
