Rojda Altıntaş recounts the Eylem Tok incident 'from start to finish'! What was discussed in her conversation with Revna Demirören?

DHA reporter Rojda Altıntaş, who revealed that the Demirören family intervened to prevent news coverage of the accident involving fugitive writer Eylem Tok's 17-year-old son, Timur Cihantimur, which resulted in the death of Oğuz Murat Aci, announced that she had resigned from the Demirören News Agency.

Altıntaş, who announced that she would continue her journalism career on YouTube, released a video detailing the process she experienced.

Noting that she tried to reach Bülent Cihantimur during the process of writing the story, Altıntaş stated that just 10 minutes after sending a message to Cihantimur, she was called by someone named "İlker," who was said to be Revna Demirören's driver, and was told that she "should not report the story."

Stating that she was called by her news manager the next day, March 3, Altıntaş noted that the manager did not believe she had been called by the boss's driver, and she stated that she was called by Revna Demirören on March 3 at 11:50 AM. Altıntaş described what happened next as follows:

“After this process, why did the person named İlker call me on March 3, why did the boss intervene? On March 3, there was a press conference by Murat Kurum, we went there. It was very crowded, the person named İlker called me again. And he said, ‘Hello Ms. Rojda, Revna Demirören is with me and wants to talk to you.’ Since my intelligence chief did not believe that it was the bosses calling me, I also started to stop believing it, and I started to think that Bülent Cihantimur's relatives might be trying to stop the story.

Revna Demirören said, ‘Hello Ms. Rojda, I am Revna Demirören. I have infinite respect for your journalism, I attach great importance to ethical values, but this child is a friend of my child, his psychology is not good at all. I request you not to report this story. If you are going to report it, please let's hide the child's name and the details,’ she said.

I said, ‘I don't believe you are Revna Demirören.’ This attitude of mine was entirely because my intelligence chief thought that a boss would not call us. She said, ‘How can I convince you,’ and I said, ‘call via video.’ Revna Demirören called me again via FaceTime from the phone of the person named İlker. I took a screenshot and sent it to my intelligence chief, who thought the boss wouldn't call us. Later, I was informed that the story would not be published.

As a young reporter, I repeated to myself many times that I should not pursue this story, that I would get into trouble, and that I would have problems regarding my family. Why did I say this? After I sent the photo of Revna Demirören to my intelligence chief, I received another call. İlker called me and said, ‘Rojda, that photo will not be sent anywhere else. Ms. Revna doesn't want it,’ and hung up on me. He didn't even give me a chance to speak. That was when I realized what kind of dangerous people I had gotten involved with.

I came home and talked to my family; they said I should close the subject and that we were no match for these people. Around the evening, there was phone traffic again. Our general manager, Celal Korkut, had read the story, etc., and it was decided to publish it. I was surprised, I said how will it be published? They published the story. Who hit whom, what happened, etc. There are no details. It had been turned into a tiny accident report... It had been made in a way that wouldn't attract much attention. Why was the story published? Because they predicted what would happen today, and they decided to publish a short story, even if it was brief, to get rid of this business. I realized there that they no longer trusted me, and that they published a short story because they thought I would break this story one day.”

Altıntaş stated that she was afraid during the process she went through and, while saying she wanted to forget what she experienced, explained that she revealed these events today due to the pangs of conscience she felt.

Writer Eylem Tok and doctor Bülent Cihantimur's unlicensed driver son, Timur Cihantimur, had hit Oğuz Murat Acı and his friends with a luxury vehicle. Afterward, the unlicensed driver in question was smuggled by his mother, Eylem Tok, first to Egypt and then to the USA. Demirören News Agency employee Rojda Altıntaş had announced that she was subjected to censorship and pressure during the process of reporting the story. Altıntaş stated that she remained silent for a while due to threats and pressure, and announced that she had resigned from the Demirören News Agency.
