RTÜK gives Fatih Altaylı a 72-hour deadline: Media Ombudsman Faruk Bildirici criticizes RTÜK's decision

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) announced heavy penalties for news channels during the board meeting held yesterday.

While a 10-day blackout decision was made regarding Sözcü TV, administrative fines and program suspension penalties were imposed on numerous channels, including Halk TV, TELE 1, and Now TV.

72-HOUR DEADLINE FOR ALTAYLI AND FLU TV

The restriction decisions taken by RTÜK were not limited to TV channels.

The board also ruled that journalist Fatih Altaylı and the Flu TV channel, which broadcast via YouTube, must apply for a license. A 72-hour period was granted for both channels, and it was announced that if the application requirements are not met and the necessary applications are not made within this period, access to the channels will be blocked.

STATEMENT FROM ALTAYLI

Journalist Fatih Altaylı made the following statement on his social media account regarding the penalties imposed:

"As of now, there is nothing that has been notified to me. When official notification is made, as a journalist from an era where laws were respected, we will of course fulfill our legal obligations."

Following these developments, Media Ombudsman Faruk Bildirici emphasized that RTÜK's demand for licenses from Fatih Altaylı and YouTube broadcasters is unlawful. Bildirici stated, "They are not 'broadcasts dedicated to transmitting radio-TV services via the internet environment'."
