RTÜK ignores public austerity measures! The cost of a 1-day conference is jaw-dropping...

Following the public austerity package announced 12 days ago by Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) held a conference at a 5-star hotel.

RTÜK, which frequently imposes fines on opposition channels, held its "Digital Broadcasting in the Century of Turkey" conference at a five-star hotel in Ankara.

According to a report by Mustafa Bildircin from Birgün, 1.9 million TL was spent from RTÜK's coffers for the conference, which lasted only one day.

The cost of the conference held at the five-star hotel in Ankara has also been revealed. It was learned that the conference, held just 12 days after the Circular on Austerity Measures prepared by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force on May 17, cost the public nearly 2 million TL.

A tender was opened on May 15, 2024, for the procurement of organizational services for the conference. Bids were received from three companies for the tender, which was conducted using the negotiated procedure. The tender, for which a total estimated cost of 2 million 61 thousand TL was calculated, was finalized at 1 million 901 thousand 300 TL. A contract was signed between RTÜK and the company named Anka Kongre Turizm, which won the tender, on May 27, the 10th day the austerity circular was in effect. The conference was held 12 days after the circular, at a five-star hotel located in Yenimahalle, Ankara.

RTÜK signs off on expenditures that draw criticism almost every year. The cost of events held in Morocco, Austria, Romania, Hungary, and Belgium in 2022 as part of the Media Literacy in the Digital Age and Turkish language workshops, carried out in partnership between RTÜK and the Yunus Emre Institute, is stated to be 2.2 million TL.
