RTÜK President Şahin: We condemn the ugly attack with hatred

RTÜK President Şahin, in a post on his social media account, said,

"It is known that we have clearly expressed our sensitivity regarding the heinous attack against CHP Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel from the very first moment. As the Radio and Television Supreme Council, we, along with our nation, condemn this ugly attack with hatred.

The relevant units of our state took action in a very short time to ensure the perpetrator was caught and have rapidly taken the necessary steps to uncover all connections to the incident.

Despite the sensitivity shown by our state institutions and the Radio and Television Supreme Council throughout this entire process, immediately after the incident, some media outlets made broadcasts that targeted our state and security forces without presenting any concrete evidence, amounting to trial by media," he stated.

Stating that RTÜK is an independent institution that oversees broadcasting within constitutional boundaries, Şahin said, "The decisions for broadcast suspension and administrative sanctions taken at the Supreme Council meeting today were made because these broadcasts targeted individuals without observing any ethical principles and presented untrue claims as if they were true.

The Radio and Television Supreme Council is an independent institution that oversees broadcasting within constitutional boundaries.

As in all democratic societies, criticism is a right, and we have infinite respect for the exercise of this right. However, no media outlet has the right to broadcast irresponsibly under the guise of criticism in a way that casts suspicion on public authority, misleads the public, and damages institutional reputation," he said.
