RTÜK President Şahin: 'Principle decisions are transparent'
Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) President Ebubekir Şahin stated, "The statements made by some politicians and broadcasting organizations regarding broadcast and program suspension penalties are for the sake of popularity."
RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin, in a post on his social media account, stated, "Misleading statements containing disinformation that have been attempted to be reflected to the public in recent days should not be given credence. The 10-day broadcast suspension penalties given to Sözcü TV and Halk TV, and the 5-program suspension penalty given to Tele1, were applied as a result of severe and intentional broadcast violations that continued despite long-standing constructive warnings. The portrayal of these sanctions as if they were issued suddenly by some politicians, the broadcasting organizations in question, and certain circles trying to gain visibility and popularity through RTÜK, in a way intended to mislead the public, does not reflect the truth."
In his post, where he invited broadcasters to broadcast in accordance with the legislation, Şahin included the following statements: "We remind you once again, RTÜK's principle decisions are transparent, the provisions of Law No. 6112 are indisputable, and court decisions are clear. On this occasion, we invite all our broadcasters to broadcast in accordance with the law and relevant legislation."
