Statement from RTÜK President Şahin on 'Famagusta': Will it be broadcast on Netflix?

RTÜK President Ebubekir Şahin announced in a statement on his social media account that "Famagusta," which was licensed by Netflix and disparages the Cyprus Peace Operation, will not be broadcast.

'IT WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE COUNTRY CATALOG IN TURKEY'

In his written statement, Şahin used the following expressions:

“The production titled 'Famagusta' was met with reaction from the Turkish public due to its content against the 'Cyprus Landing,' which is the epic of peace and heroism in our recent history. The 'Cyprus Peace Operation,' which aimed to defend the rightful cause of the Turkish Cypriots and to rescue our oppressed kinsmen, brought peace to the Island within the framework of law, living up to its name. The heroic Turkish soldier brought peace and tranquility to Cyprus, the bloodshed stopped, and the tears of the oppressed were wiped away. While historical facts are clear, it is an unacceptable mistake for some circles to maliciously emerge with a film that disparages Turks, our country, and our heroic army. The production was previously broadcast on television in its country of origin and was subsequently licensed by Netflix. As the institution that regulates and supervises digital broadcasting services in our country, our Supreme Council held the necessary discussions with the broadcaster Netflix, and a consensus was reached that the production would not be broadcast. The production in question will only enter the Netflix catalog in the country where it was previously broadcast (Greece) and will not be included in the catalog in Turkey or any other country.”
